On Thursday and Friday, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performed a pair of hour-long concerts of music composed entirely by female composers for roughly 4,000 local sixth-graders.
Most classical music programs are dominated by male composers and orchestras around the country are under scrutiny for a lack of diversity in programming.
PSO associate conductor Andres Franco led the orchestra, and Shattered Glass podcast hosts Marita Garrett and Monica Hershberger narrated the event. Shattered Glass tells the stories of extraordinary women shattering the glass ceiling...

Shattered Glass Turns ONE!
Shattered Glass, (www.shatteredglasspodcast.com), a podcast sharing stories of extraordinary women shattering the glass ceiling, is celebrating their first birthday with a live interview with Meredith Meyer Grelli, owner of Wigle Whiskey and 2018 James Beard Semi Finalist at Wigle Whiskey’s distillery in the Strip District.
“Over the past year, we have shared stories of a James Beard Award Winning chef (Jamilka Borges), Allegheny County Controller (Chelsa Wagner), and an advocate for refugees and immigrants (Betty Cruz). Their stories just begin to scratch the surface of the varied, impressive stories of powerful women in leadership” said Monica Hershberger, co-host.
